A Scare

Last week I had a cold but I am better now. My GYN Dr. said it was safe to take anything tylenol, so I took tylenol cold (just a few times because I want to take the least amount of safe meds possible). In addition, I must have gotten viral pink eye because I am better now, I needed to tell you that so you didn't worry with what I write next. I went to my family physician on Tuesday for the pink eye and the Dr. said that it was hopefully viral and he was not going to give me antibiotics because they were harmful to the baby. He said if it leads to bacterial pink eye, to come in, and we would need to decide if I was going to take antibiotics or not. He said if I took them, the baby would be harmed and if I didn't, I could lose my eye! I sat out in my car for 30 mins. crying which I think helped my eye because it is better today. I called Vladi and of course he was upset and then I called Dr. B's office, spoke to a sweet nurse, and cried. She pulled Dr. B out of a room with a patient to talk to me. He said that what my other Dr. said was completely untrue. Big Sigh, what a relief. Dr. B said pregnant women are treated for pink eye all the time and even for worse infections. Thank you Dr. B for curing my scare!

Great Lakes and a Great Friend

This past Saturday, Vladi and I went to Great Lakes Brewery to see a friend that was in the area. Emery went to The Patterson School of Diplomacy with Vladi (where Vladi got his masters). It was so good catching up with Emery and hearing about others that Vladi went to school with. Vladi made so many friends at the Patterson School and we miss hanging out with them. What a nice afternoon at Great Lakes with good company. Vladi wants me to add that the beer was good and look for it at your local liquor store. I enjoyed my ginger ale on the rocks (look for that at your local grocery). ;)

The Dancing Queen at Allison's Wedding

In the picture: (front left) Sharon, Rachel, Danielle (my teammate), Baby G's Mommy
(back left) Megan, Lindsey, Regina, Allison (the Bride), Autumn, Sharon, and Jeannie (missed you Brooke!)

Vladi and I went to my friend/coworker's wedding 2 Saturdays ago. It was so beautiful and fun. This was the first night that I did not feel nauseated and I was ready to dance. I danced and danced, I did not stop. My friends could not believe what they saw. The music was wonderful and I was afraid those that didn't know me would think that I was drunk (the way I danced, they would never believe that I was pregnant), but I felt good so I let it show. I sipped on Shirley Temples all night, thanks to the bartender (sprite, cherry juice, and cherries). Danielle's favorite dance of mine was Thriller. The djs and I were doing the Thriller dance together. Thanks to Vladi, I wasn't always the only one from our group on the dance floor. We looked like we could have been on Dancing With the Stars for the rhumba and hip hop episodes. haha

We missed the UK game on tv (since this is Ohio State country, UK is never on tv) against Arkansas because we decided to stay later since UK was not winning (UK played Arkansas the night Vladi and I met=7 overtimes). UK did end up winning, YEAH! Vladi and I had such a special night at the wedding, we thought that night was one of the few last nights we would have just the two of us. How bittersweet.

Congratulations to Allison and Joe!

Cavs and Nachos

The next three blogs are to catch you up on our life in Cleveland.

A few weeks ago, Vladi and I went to a pre-season Cavaliers game against the Spurs. To the right is a picture of Lebron James, the KING in Cleveland. Before the game, Vladi and I went to Panini's, a bar/restaurant downtown where they have sandwiches that I call, Manly Sandwiches. These sandwiches have meat, french fries, cole slaw, a dressing, and something else. They are good, but I like their pizza. So Vlad got his manly sandwich and I got a slice of pizza (holding out for something yummy at the game, I was hoping). So we get to the game and pass a nacho stand that had perfect looking, melted cheese. I wanted it so badly but didn't say anything. When we sat down, it was so funny because all I could think about were those nachos (and I haven't felt like eating for a while). Of course everyone around us sits down with nachos... EVERYBODY! So I casually said, "Oh those nachos look and smell so good." The next thing I know, Vladi says, "Ok Baby," and is walking down the steps. I yelled, "Get lots of cheese!!!" When my wonderful man returned, he had nachos and a Sierra Mist (caffeine free) for us to share. Vladi said he was short 50 cents (no credit card accepted and neither one of us carry cash usually), but the man still gave it to him. I wanted to go thank that man. Vladi barely ate any nachos as I repeated over and over, "Oh thank you Honey, these are amazing!" Then I asked why he got these, we never get them. Vladi said one of the sweetest statements that he could ever say to his pregnant wife, "Because Honey, I know that you have not been able to eat anything." Ohhhh, how sweet to think of me. :)

As we watched the game, there was an ad on the jumbo screen for people to come to the hockey game the next night and get an Obama or McCain bobble head. I thought to myself, if we go, I can get more nachos! haha We were going to go just to get the bobble head (and nachos), but Vladi checked online and it was just for kids under 17 (below the voting age!). "Are you SERIOUS?!?!?" I yelled (that's what I say since we moved here). Now why would a kid want a political bobble head? I said that it was discrimination to people without kids. And then I thought that maybe we could say that we had a baby in our tummy, but Vladi said no.

We had a great night, even though the Cavs lost...and I look forward to more nachos!!! Yummy!

Sights and Sounds to Our Hearts

Vladi and I had our second appointment with Dr. B on Monday!!! We had an ultrasound which was the most beautiful thing we have ever seen. Tears are coming to my eyes right now as I think about the experience of seeing our baby. Vladi and I were in awe when the Tech (Meredith, no not my Sister) turned the screen in our direction and there was our beautiful, miracle baby! Vladi and I held hands and I did some type of laughing giggle (I think it was many emotions all rolled up into one. I have been nervous, for no reason at all, that the baby would not be there). Since I was giggling, Baby G was bouncing all around. I think I woke it up. The Tech said, "If you hold real still, you will see that the baby is moving." So I held as still as I could and the baby was kicking, swinging it's arms, and looked ready to do a flip. Then all of a sudden, Baby G fell asleep. We were so happy to catch the baby in action. Then we heard the heartbeat...music to our ears! The Tech said that Baby G was doing perfect. She said that it is exactly 12 weeks and I said, "Great, because I am 12 weeks exactly today!"

I sent a picture to our Parents, Meredith, and my Grandpa. They were so excited. My mom said that she was rocking her cell phone. haha

Here are pictures of Baby G: Baby G's head is on the left in both pics. The eyes are the black spots. The white spot above the trunk is it's hand.

Dr. B and the Tech said that we can find out the sex of the baby in the middle of December as opposed to January. I can't wait to tell our parents and family in person for Christmas since we told our parents over the phone that we were pregnant (that story coming soon).

I am not showing yet but I can feel my uterus when I lay down. I still have nausea but hopefully that will go away in my second trimester (1 1/2 weeks left).

Vladi and I use to yell out, "Oh my gosh! We are pregnant!" But yes, Baby G definitely feels real now after the ultrasound and hearing the heartbeat. We have seen and heard the music to our hearts.

Inches vs. Centimeters and a BLT

1. When I read about one of my friends (on her preggo blog), it said that she was dilated 4, or something like that. I said to Vladi, "WOW, Vladi! Just think, she has to dilate to 10 inches! That is so big!" Then after I said that, I thought to myself, "That's big enough for a basketball maybe. That doesn't sound right, wouldn't the baby just slide out?" But I didn't say anything to Vladi because I thought, "he doesn't know." After thinking more about this and how scary 10 inches was, I yelled, "NO! It's 10 centimeters!!!" Vladi said that that's what he figured. How silly of me.

2. One day at my lunch break, I was craving a BLT. There is a little diner 1 1/2 blocks away from my work, so I decided to walk there. On the way I thought, "I bet they take cash and I don't have cash, BUT I really need a BLT!" When I was about to open the door, I saw the dreaded sign... CASH ONLY! So I stood on the sidewalk deciding how to get my BLT. 2 blocks away and through a very busy intersection is my bank. So I walked to the bank, yes, and thought about my BLT all the way. I could feel all the drivers looking at me because I know I looked out of place. When I got to the bank, I walked up to the Jennie machine in the drive thru. There was a car behind me. haha The tellers at the window were just staring at me. I walked back to the diner and very much enjoyed my BLT. It was perfect!

3. Most preggo women have trouble with their senses. Well, I definitely am. I am not having morning sickness, instead I have evening sickness (not much throwing up). It's horrible because as soon as I get home to see Vladi and fix dinner together, I am too nausiated to think of food. Smell really bothers me and then there is meat... Oh meat, I can't stand it for the most part and I use to love meat. I can't eat chicken at all which is sad because that's what we use to fix every night. The only meat that I can really do is pork (ribs) and bacon. Sometimes I feel good enough to eat hamburger. So we are having trouble figuring out what to eat. My Mom says that my gag reflexes are very sensitive. I'd rather just throw up then walk around all day gagging. Yet, I know all of this is because of Baby G, and that makes it ok. AND, I am so lucky to have a husband like Vladi. He has been so sweet, understanding, and thoughtful to all of my needs.

Not Twins, But Friends

Vladi and I received wonderful news tonight! Baby G will have a new friend... introducing Baby E!!! Our close friends, Dave and Julie Eaves are expecting a baby!!!!!!!!!! We are soooo excited for them and thankful to God for their Miracle.

Julie and I love taking adventures together. Our many dance nights at midnight (while in college at our apartment) and one summer, acting like we were living in Florida and had a pool man, Rodriguez (the grounds keeper at the apt. complex. He was cool!). One of my favorite adventures is one that I actually have on video. It is us singing "Going to the Chapel" for a couple (filming a wedding video) at a park in downtown Chicago. When we met Dave (he studied at UK from the University of Bath, England), our adventures continued. We drove to New York City, had many pint nights at Pazzo's pub in Lexington, KY, traveled around England (a group of us visited Dave and Tom), and last October, I was the Maid of Honor in their beautiful wedding. NOW, Julie and I will continue our adventures...being preggo together!!!

We are looking forward to our little one's adventures together. We hope that they will be best friends. Vladi and Dave will be able to share stories of what "their women" are putting them thru and the excitement they have of becoming Dads. How exciting!

BUT WAIT! I haven't told you the really cool part about it! Vladi's and my baby is due, May 11th. Guess when Julie and Dave's baby is due....
May 12th!!!! So we are the same week in our pregnancy! TOO COOL! They have their 1st ultrasound on Oct. 31st and ours is Oct. 27th (Julie and Dave's 1 year Anniversary).

Stay posted for more stories...

WELCOME BABY GOMELSKY

Introducing Baby Gomelsky, the new name for our website. Vladi and I have changed this from meatball because of international reasons. "Meatball" isn't something good, to call your precious baby, in the Russian language. We thought it was cute, but we have been saying "Baby G" 9 out of 10 times; therefore, we decided to go with Baby Gomelsky.

Stay tuned for future blogs.....
